Being featured as the Rising Star in the September 2026 issue of Indy Real Producers is a big moment for me. I am still breathing it all in.
Looking back just a few years ago, real estate was a seed that had been planted—a hopeful idea that maybe I could become a licensed REALTOR® and build something meaningful. Fast forward to now, and I tear up thinking about how far that little seed has grown. These moments still feel surreal. I'm learning to stop, take a breath, celebrate them, and bottle up a little of that excitement to carry with me into whatever comes next.
I am incredibly grateful for this journey and for the support extended to me by family, friends, clients, colleagues, and acquaintances along the way. The support network I have built throughout all the different places and chapters of my life means so much to me. The opportunities that continue to come from this career are something I do not take lightly.
My journey to becoming a REALTOR® has not been a straight line. If you've been part of my journey, you know that I have followed several different career paths. Looking back, though, I can see that they have all shared the same heart: helping others.
I have spent more than 15 years in Special Education, including supporting Deaf education, teaching American Sign Language (ASL), and using ASL daily in my work. I've worked in outreach and family advocacy as an Educational Consultant. My husband, Joe, and I opened our home as therapeutic foster parents, taking on some of the agency's most challenging cases and loving children through incredibly difficult seasons of their lives.
I've worked in emergency services as a first responder. I've written grants for emergency management, served as a SKYWARN storm spotter and ham radio operator, and worked as a caregiver for senior citizens.
More recently, I spent several years helping people achieve success in their weight-loss journeys. That experience taught me an entirely different level of compassion and empathetic listening. I learned how important it is to get behind someone's why—to understand what is really motivating them, what may be holding them back, and how to coach and encourage them toward a goal that matters deeply to them.
For a long time, these experiences seemed like completely separate chapters. Different careers. Different journeys.
Now, I see the common thread.
Our life journey continues to prepare us for what lies ahead—and that's the beauty of growth. Every chapter gives us something we can carry into the next.
Real estate allows me to bring together so much of what I have learned throughout my life: how to teach without overwhelming someone, how to advocate when someone's voice needs to be heard, how to remain calm when circumstances become stressful, how to communicate across language and cultural differences, how to listen for what someone isn't saying, and how to help people keep moving forward when a goal feels difficult or out of reach.
I didn't leave those careers behind when I became a REALTOR®.
I bring every single one of them with me.
How My Journey Shapes the Way I Serve My Real Estate Clients
Today, as a REALTOR® and Broker with F.C. Tucker Company, I have the opportunity to put all of those experiences to work for buyers and sellers throughout Indianapolis, Greater Indianapolis, East Central Indiana, and the surrounding Central Indiana communities.
My approach to real estate is rooted in the same things that have guided me throughout my career: education, communication, advocacy, problem-solving, and relationships.
Buying or selling a home is a major financial transaction, but it is also an incredibly personal one. There is almost always a bigger story behind the move. A first home. A growing family. A new job. A divorce. Retirement. Relocation. An investment. A fresh start. Sometimes, it's simply someone wondering whether now might finally be the right time.
Before I can help someone figure out what they should do, I want to understand why they're doing it.
That's where I believe my background makes me a different kind of real estate agent.
I don't want my clients to simply follow instructions through a transaction. I want them to understand what is happening, why it matters, what their options are, and feel confident making decisions for themselves.
For a first-time homebuyer, that may mean slowing down and explaining everything from preapproval and earnest money to inspections, negotiations, appraisal, and closing.
For a seller, it means understanding what they hope to accomplish beyond simply selling the house. Where are they going next? What matters most—timing, proceeds, convenience, certainty, or something else entirely? Once I understand the goal, we can build a strategy around it.
For someone relocating to Indiana, it may mean helping them understand the differences between communities and finding the place that makes sense for their lifestyle, commute, priorities, and future plans.
And sometimes my most important role is simply being the person who can remain calm, listen, problem-solve, and advocate when something unexpected happens.
The transaction matters. But the people involved in it matter more.
ASL, Accessibility, and Real Estate: Every Voice Deserves to Be Heard and Understood
One of the most meaningful ways my previous career and my real estate career have come together is through American Sign Language (ASL) and my work within the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.
I am fluent in American Sign Language and have spent more than 15 years working in Special Education and Deaf education. Today, that experience allows me to provide direct communication in ASL for Deaf and Hard of Hearing buyers and sellers navigating real estate in Indianapolis and throughout Central Indiana.
And that matters.
A real estate transaction involves so much more than looking at houses. There are contracts, negotiations, inspections, financing, disclosures, deadlines, and major financial decisions along the way. Every client deserves the opportunity to ask questions, understand their options, advocate for what matters to them, and make informed decisions about their future.
For Deaf and Hard of Hearing clients, access to a REALTOR® who can communicate directly in ASL can remove an additional communication barrier from an already complex process.
But my passion for accessibility extends beyond my individual clients.
I believe our real estate industry has a responsibility to think seriously about language access, effective communication, accessibility, and fair housing. I want to be part of conversations that help our profession become more inclusive and ensure consumers have meaningful access to the information they need when making one of the largest financial decisions of their lives.
That mission can be summed up simply:
Every voice deserves to be heard and understood.
Accessibility and communication aren't an extra service I add to my real estate business.
They are at the heart of everything I do.
Celebrating the Moment—and Looking Ahead
Being recognized as an Indy Real Producers Rising Star gives me an opportunity to pause and appreciate how far this journey has taken me, while also making me incredibly excited about what comes next.
I want to continue growing, learning, serving my clients well, and finding ways to make a difference in the communities around me.
As I shared in my Indy Real Producers feature, “The transaction ends, but the relationship continues.” That is the kind of real estate business I want to continue building—one rooted in relationships, trust, advocacy, and service.
